Saturday, May 31, 2014, the Slagle's went to the Manzanar Relocation Center to see the area where Japanese Americans were detained during WWII. Very informative, eye-opening, very sad, and well worth a visit. From there, we went to Lone Pine, CA. Dad said we were going to the phlegm museum, but it turned out to be the film museum--which, I imagine, is much better than a phlegm museum. We got to see some memorabilia from some of my favorite films and television shows including, Iron Man, Star Wars, Transformers, Superman, Green Lantern, and the Lone Ranger. The collection included one cool donation from Quentin Tarantino, the horse drawn carriage that belonged to the dentist/vigilante in Django Unchained. We also traveled up into Alabama Hills of Lone Pine, CA, and saw where they filmed hundreds of westerns and most of the Lone Ranger episodes (Lone Ranger Canyon). From there we visited the Sequoia National Forest and we saw a Sequoia tree called General Sherman, the largest tree in the world. It's estimated to be between 2200 and 2700 years old. If 2700 years old, this tree started growing about the time Sennacherib of Assyria conquered Babylon and was 700 years old when Jesus was born. From there we went to Fresno where we met with Veritas/Emory alums, JP and Margaret Ann Shamshoian. They treated us to the best sushi ever and hosted us for the night. Thanks, JP and Margaret Ann!
