After a year off, we have started back on our 50 State Tour. This morning, May 29, Richie Gunn took us to the airport at 6:00 a.m. Richie greeted us saying, "I'm up early. I've already buttered the cow and fed the chickens." Crazy Richie. We flew to Dallas, TX and on to LAX. From there we drove to the Route 66 Museum in Victorville, CA. Route 66 is called The Mother Road. Got my hippie on there, and we met Carolyn and Eden Chen. The Chen's followed us to Elmer's Bottle Tree Ranch. Elmer looks like a California Gandalf and he has created a forest of made out of metal trees and bottles, spans about three acres. He's a super nice guy. He came out and talked to us for a long time. We went out to eat at The Mad Greek with Carolyn and Eden. Bun Boy had his picture made beside one of the statues. Mature. We also stopped at a place called Alien Fresh Jerky. Weird. Finally, we arrived at our hotel destination in Death Valley, The Shoshone Inn. We had an AC in our room, but Carolyn and Eden opted for a "swamp cooler"--whatever that is. Tomorrow, we venture into some family fun time in Death Valley.
