On Tuesday night we slept in a covered wagon on the Laura Ingalls Wilder
Homestead. The wind was blowing hard outside and it was very cozy in the wagon.
When we woke up, me and my dad walked around the property and while we were walking my dad almost stepped on a snake! We don’t think it was poisonous though.
We took a covered wagon ride and I got to drive a little bit. We drove the wagon to the little school house and the teacher there made us dress up like people in Laura Ingalls Wilder’s day. I was dressed up like Almanzo (Laura’s husband). She drew an X on the chalkboard and made me put my nose against the X (like I was in trouble). Grandaddy, did you ever have to do that? I know Granny didn’t. We also saw some baby kittens, two baby miniature horses, made rope and made a corn cob super-hero (He let me do that because I didn’t really want to make a corn cob doll). After leaving the Ingall’s place, we went to the Corn Palace in Mitchell, SD. They use thousands of ears of corn to make giant murals and they change the murals ever year because the birds eat them. Pretty corny stuff. As we drove through SD it was very flat, but then it got very rocky because we were in the Badlands. We got out of the car to look at the Badlands and saw a sign that said, “Beware Rattlesnakes!” We got back in the car. As we drove through SD we saw a lot of signs for a place called Wall Drug. It’s kind of like the Rock City of the Midwest. We went to Wall Drug and it has lots of really cool, random stuff like Jack-a-lopes. We’re not related.
